Steenberg Manor House12/04/2013
Steenberg’s historic Manor House, where luxury and contemporary heritage meet in a magical setting among the vineyards and mountains on the oldest farm in the Constantia Valley.
The Winter Exclusive Use Offer at this Cape Dutch architectural masterpiece has been designed to meet the increasing demand for ‘villa-style’ accommodation and is ideal for small groups of friends or family travelling together, or for corporate clients and executive business meetings. Providing guests the run of the Manor House – a Provincial Heritage Site, it comprises five spacious guest bedrooms, each reflecting the elegant style of the erstwhile homestead. With a delicious Breakfast daily and a 3-course candlelight Dinner on a night of choice, prepared for the group by Catharina’s creative chef Garth Almazan, and served in the Manor House private Dining Room, it offers superb value at R10 500 per night – valid for a stay of 2 nights.
The Manor House takes pride of place at the gracious Steenberg boutique hotel, in a timeless setting that reflects the romance of its former name, Swaaneweide – the feeding place of Swans. Dating back to 1682 when the farm was established by its feisty first owner, Catharina Ras, it has been lovingly restored, with traditional antique décor in elegant Cape Dutch styling. It boasts the only ‘holbol’ gable in the Cape Peninsula, traditional yellow wood shutters, and an authentic stable door at the entrance, overlooking a serene garden setting.
The magnificent Manor House is filled with priceless treasures that include Cape stinkwood and teak furniture, as well as rustic chairs made from citrus wood that originated from the West coast. A large, 19th century mahogany dining room table adds to the sense of place, and here it’s easy to imagine sumptuous dinner parties being held in past centuries. In this comfortable space, the story of Catharina Ras has been told countless times, keeping her incomparable spirit and perseverance alive. Inspired by her legacy, the team at Steenberg radiate her warm passion and penchant for excellence, and strive to do things, a little differently – just like the lady herself.
Steenberg is known for its wide range of attractions, from rejuvenating spa treatments and world-class golfing, to gourmet dining at its two restaurants, and wine tasting at leisure. From May, this array of sensory experiences will be further extended with monthly Tuesday Movie Nights held at the Steenberg Winery. The Steenberg Tuesday Movie Night package is an ideal mid-week break that combines a magical movie screening, with a delicious light Movie Meal and popcorn prepared by Bistro Sixteen82, rounded off by overnight accommodation in the informal luxury of the Steenberg Hotel with full English breakfast included the next day.
