The French Alps is a tremendous skiing destination throughout much of the year. You can find action, adventure and a lot of pleasure here just about any month that you choose to visit.

Having said that, when is the absolutely perfect month to visit here according to your tastes and needs? There are a few points to take into account when arranging a special trip here.

December for Festive Joy and Special Events

For many of us, the idea of celebrating Christmas or New Year in the French Alps is simply incredible. Can you imagine the joy of skiing on Christmas day and of seeing such amazing scenery at this special time of year?

Of course, the best ski resorts are very popular at this time of year, so you can expect a buzzing atmosphere as everyone looks to have a good time. December is ideal for a family trip or for a romantic break in the mountains.

This exciting and magical time of year is also when you can expect to come across a lot of special events in the French Alps as well. Just check out the list of events in the resort that most interest you and you are almost certain to find something special to see or do.

Many of the best resorts are just beginning to open at this time of year, as the snow is now good enough for skiing on. This important time in the ski calendar is marked by festivals and special events to get skiers into the swing of things for another season of fun.

January for Brilliant Skiing

The French school holidays could play a part in the dates that you choose to get away. February through to early March is when a lot of French families take advantage of these holidays to get away for a ski trip.

This means that the most family –friendly resorts can get extremely busy at this time of year. This means that if you like to be in a buzzing town filled with happy families then this is a fine month to visit.

On the other hand, if you want a quieter time on your ski break then you will probably want to avoid the French school holidays if you can. If you decide to visit an Alpine ski town during this month then you are in for a lot of fun either way, as the ski season is well in its stride by this month.

Resorts such as Les Gets and Meribel are hugely exciting destinations in February for a number of reasons. You can expect to come across interesting shows and cultural events to add to the pleasure of getting out on the slopes.

March for Massive Festivals

By March the ski season is getting near to its end. However, there is still time to enjoy the various pleasures that can be had from a trip to the Alps.

For instance, March is a fantastic month to visit the ski resort such as Morzine and Tignes. This is because in this month you can see some of the biggest and best events in the French Alps calendar.

The middle of March often sees the world’s best winter sports stars arrive here for tough winter sports events and festivals. There are typically massive events that can attract many visitors to these resorts to see them and is the perfect time to look at all inclusive ski holidays if you like lively trips.

After that, The Brits is a music and sports festival that sometimes runs for a week from the end of March into April in the resort of Tignes. This period of the year sees Tignes enjoy a vibrant party atmosphere with many skiers looking for a great night of après ski to round off a fantastic day.

The giant Portes du Soleil ski area also plays host to the ever popular Rock the Pistes festival in this month. If you are in one of the top ski resorts in this region at this time of year then a trip to this music festival is a must.

A March break in one of these stylish resorts can be a great break from work and home life at a time of year when many of us are desperate to add some fun to the long winter months.

Most French Alps ski resorts close for the end of the season in April. This is when the warmer weather begins and the snow begins to melt.

If you can hold off until this point in the season then you will benefit from spring-like weather and the chance to see the scenery changing. This month also sees a number of big events held to close the season in style at different resort.

Spring is traditionally a season when many events are held across France and the Alps region is no exception in this regard.

There is also a vague sense of sadness as another season ends but the revellers who go skiing at this time of year just want one last chance to have some fun out on the slopes. There is a lot of fun to be had in April and you can start to look forward to your next trip in the following ski season.
