Anaheim…The World’s Favourite Playground
21/03/2025Anaheim, a sun-drenched gem in Southern California, is nestled between Los Angeles and San Diego and is famously home to the first & original Disneyland Resort.
Just an hour’s drive south (52 kms) from LAX and two hours north (145 kms) from San Diego, Anaheim is also a short distance from 68 kms of breathtaking coastline and pristine beaches. This makes it a perfect destination for both adventure seekers and those looking to unwind.
One of the most notable historical landmarks in Anaheim is the Anaheim Packing House. Originally built in 1919, this mission-style building served as a citrus packing house during the early 20th century, reflecting the city’s agricultural roots.
The Packing House was a hub for the local citrus industry, where oranges and lemons were packed and shipped across the country. After falling into disuse, it was revitalised and reopened in 2014 as a trendy food hall, preserving its historical charm while offering a variety of culinary delights.
Today, the Anaheim Packing House is a vibrant gathering spot as part of the larger Packing District, featuring artisanal eateries, themed bars and a lively atmosphere.
Anaheim is perhaps best known as the home of Disneyland Resort, which opened in 1955 and has since become a world-renowned destination. The Disneyland Resort will be celebrating its 70th anniversary this year, which promises to be a spectacular event, honouring this milestone with magical and enchanting experiences. The resort includes Disneyland Park, Disney California Adventure Park and the Downtown Disney District, attracting many visitors each year.
In recent years, Anaheim has seen significant development and the introduction of new attractions. The Anaheim GardenWalk, an outdoor shopping, dining and entertainment centre, has become a popular destination for tourists.
It features a variety of restaurants, shops and entertainment venues, including the House of Blues Anaheim, The Cheesecake Factory and Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. to name just a few.
Nearby, the Honda Center hosts the national ice hockey team the Anaheim Ducks, and Angel Stadium, home of the Angels baseball team, provide venues for some great and entertaining sporting events.
Anaheim continues to evolve with new projects and events on the horizon. OCVIBE is set to transform the area around the Honda Center as a mixed-use community with residential, retail and entertainment spaces.
This development promises to enhance the city’s appeal and provide new opportunities. 2028 will be an exciting year with Los Angeles hosting the Olympics, allowing for several events to be held in Anaheim including the Men’s Volleyball tournaments.
Every year Anaheim celebrates a variety of events such as the annual Taste of Japan, the Fall Festival and the Halloween Parade to name just three. There is always something happening from food festivals to music concerts.

Moira – A Loggerhead Sea Turtle:
SeaWorld San Diego played a key role in the successful rescue and return of Moira, a loggerhead sea turtle, following a remarkable rehabilitation journey. Moira was initially rescued by the Vancouver Aquarium Marine Mammal Rescue Society (VAMMR), in February 2024 in British Columbia, after being found cold-stunned with a dangerously low body temperature.
At the time of her rescue, she was the second reported sighting of a loggerhead sea turtle in British Columbia. Once stabilised by VAMMR and with the help of Turtles Fly Too, Moira was flown from Vancouver to San Diego, for further rehabilitation. SeaWorld Rescue Center’s expert staff and veterinarians assessed her condition, ensuring she was ready for return. In October 2024, Moira was returned to warmer waters off the coast of San Diego, fitted with a satellite tracker to monitor her journey.
This rescue involved collaboration between SeaWorld, the Vancouver Aquarium, Turtles Fly Too and other agencies, highlighting the importance of protecting endangered species like loggerhead turtles. The coordinated efforts ensured Moira’s recovery and return to her natural habitat, supporting broader marine conservation goals.
Two Guadulupe Fur Seals:
In August 2024, SeaWorld San Diego’s Rescue Team successfully returned two Guadalupe fur seals, a male and female, to the ocean after months of careful rehabilitation. Rescued and brought to the Pacific Marine Mammal Center, he was soon transferred to SeaWorld where he received intensive care, including tube feeding. After regaining strength and reaching a healthy 36 pounds (16kgs), he was ready to return to the ocean, diving and eating fish just like a seal should.
The female seal was discovered shortly after, in late April, injured on a dock at Cabrillo Marina in San Pedro, California. Weighing only 11 pounds (5kgs) and suffering from a cut on her rear flipper and a low white blood cell count, she was first treated at the Marine Mammal Care Center before being transferred to SeaWorld for continued recovery. Under expert care, she gained strength, reaching 46 pounds (21kgs), and was also returned to the ocean.
