Bedarra Island

A natural paradise

One of Australia’s most exclusive resorts, Bedarra Island lies just a heartbeat away from the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef, and attracts the most discerning guests who seek natural beauty, luxurious comfort and privacy.

The internationally acclaimed resort occupies a remarkable location and offers an idyllic experience of absolute luxury. Completely reconstructed in 2006 after the devastation of Cyclone Larry, the 2009/10 renovation sees a fresh injection of contemporary touches to each of the Island’s 16 lavishly appointed villas.

Nestled amongst lush rainforest, the villas have been placed to provide total privacy and spectacular surrounds. The premier choices are The Points and The Pavilions, four exclusive rooms boasting breathtaking views over the Coral Sea and plunge pools that spill over into the horizon. The remaining 12 villas are equally as luxurious, featuring filtered ocean views, open plan living, glorious king size beds and quality facilities. These villas range from double-storey beachfront and hillside to split-levels with view over Hernandia Bay.

The considered use of timber, glass and tiles throughout creates the perfect indoor-outdoor atmosphere. Expansive living spaces, decked out with the latest in entertainment technologies, open out onto timber terraces. The luxurious finishes at Bedarra are in perfect harmony with the pristine setting. From the way the ancient black boulders tumble into Wedgerock Bay, to the intimate white sand beaches ringing the island, Bedarra Island is a natural paradise.

While the main purpose of coming to Bedarra is to indulge and relax, guests are welcome to explore the beautiful surrounds at their leisure. A popular adventure is to hire a dinghy and take a gourmet picnic to one of the secluded beaches, where the day melts away in bare-foot comfort.

For the more adventurous guests, sailing, deep sea fishing and trips to the Great Barrier Reef are also available. There is a tennis court, a gym, and massage facilities to keep the health-conscious happy, or you could simply opt to spend the day lounging around the guest swimming pool overlooking Hernanadia Bay, in the company of a privileged few.

Therapeutic spa treatments are also available, either in the spa therapy room at Wedgerock Bay or in the privacy of the guest Villas, for those seeking even deeper relaxation. A large part of Bedarra’s reputation is built on its cuisine. The open terrace restaurant is its heart and soul, where guests converge to enjoy an ever-changing array of culinary delights.

Celebrating iconic Australian wines and cuisine, Executive Chef Geoffrey Crabbe changes the menu daily and pays homage to Australian contemporary influences. With flawless service and artfully presented food, the dining experience at here is second to none. The legendary open bar and lounge area is available for guests around the clock, stocking the very best wines, spirits and liqueurs. With just 32 guests allowed on the Island at any time – all of whom are gently encouraged to indulge in absolute relaxation – the sense of serenity on the Island is unparallelled, perhaps, to anywhere else on earth.

I personally couldn’t imagine a more breathtaking setting for an indulgent getaway, whether you’re planning an intimate wedding, romantic honeymoon, executive retreat or the holiday of a lifetime.
