Jamaica Bay Inn

For the first time in years we hailed a cab outside the international terminal at LAX and took a US$25 ride to the Jamaica Bay Inn in Marina Del Rey – a world away from any city or airport hotel.
Overlooking the harbour of Marina del Rey and azure waters of Marina Beach, the Jamaica Bay Inn exudes the colourful and relaxed style of some waterfront-like Caribbean getaway. This is an island-inspired boutique hotel featuring a West Indies décor, tropical textures and plenty of outdoor living spaces overlooking the marina.
This hotel has an unmatched location with Venice Pier about six blocks walking distance west giving access to the famed Venice promenade and the nearby shopping and restaurant precinct of Venice itself. To get to nearby Santa Monica is also a breeze either by hiring a bike or taking another cab ride.
The Jamaica Bay Inn has more than a touch of sophistication with signature bedding, FREE high-speed wireless Internet, huge flat screen televisions, granite countertops, large work spaces with ergonomic chairs and a private balcony or patio. This is a perfect spot to unwind for couples, families, friends or business travellers.
For once we felt very relaxed and in special surroundings as we sipped a cold beer from the Vu Restaurant Bar overlooking Marina Beach where groups of children in life jackets were taking surfing and kayak lessons. In the warmth of the afternoon sun setting over the Pacific skateboarders and bike riders sauntered past below the balcony as we ordered another cold one – truthfully this is a view you rarely get to see from any airport or city hotel!
