Getting back to nature has never been so glamourous or stress-free with the newest offering by Magic Cottages at Takou River – the ‘Gourmet Glamping Getaway’. Just a 3.5 hour drive north of Auckland, guests who arrive at the absolutely private waterfront ‘glamorous camping’ site can fall into crisp linens on their super king size bed and enjoy views of their own private river jetty – and with this new package they don’t even have to worry about what to cook or where the tin opener is.

“There’s no car loads of gear to unpack or morning meal to worry about,” says owner Anna Sizer, who after 10 years of running eco lodges in Northland knows exactly what it takes to make a holiday extra special.

“We’ve kept all the things that people love about camping – like a fry up cooked in the great outdoors and al fresco dining under the stars – and taken away all of the hard work.”

Magic Cottages at Takou River soft launched the glamping site briefly last summer to test run and perfect the facilities.

Glamping A glorious new getaway at Takou River6“Of course people adored the location,” says Anna, “But we were also really surprised at the amazing feedback we were getting about the level of luxury like beautiful vintage furniture, timber floors and all the tiny details we’ve included in the high quality kitchen and bathroom. We’re now officially opening the site with all these special finishing touches included and a great package that we know people will absolutely adore.”

The Gourmet Glamping Getaway includes a delicious gourmet breakfast hamper, which people can enjoy in their own fully equipped kitchen, complete with free range and organic delicacies like bacon and eggs, croissants, yoghurts and coffee, plus bubbles for a Bucks Fizz…or two.

The glamping site, which features a beautiful white safari style tent pitched on a kauri timber floor, super king bed and cosy linens, also includes a vintage-styled bathroom with hot steamy shower and gorgeous antique flush toilet.

Just a short stroll down the riverbank and under the shade of ancient pohutukawa trees is a private bath perched overlooking the river, also complete with hot running water.

The Gourmet Glamping Getaway package costs NZ$700 based on two people staying for two nights. Regular glamping rates start at NZ$280 per night.

Magic Cottages at Takou River also has four private riverside cottages and a lodge set amidst five acres of sub-tropical gardens, bordered by the peaceful Takou River, surrounded by 150 acres of native bush and certified organic pasture, and just a short paddle from the beautiful sandy beaches of Takou Bay.
