A very special experience

Thank you for the great time. I wanted to take my wife somewhere special for her birthday and I couldn’t have done any better! This place is beautiful and you are doing great things with it” – Melbourne, Australia

Sweeping manicured lawns surround an immaculate drive, and mature trees flirtingly dapple the light whilst at the same time providing a tapestry of colour. Welcome to Hamurana Lodge, a luxuriously appointed three-story Tudor-style residence on the outskirts of Rotorua.

Spilling regally down the hillside, the exterior is formal, yet completely welcoming. The first floor deck area creates a sheltered portico that shelters guests from any inclement weather, and the wide front steps literally beckon you inside. How could one resist? Alex and Fred have created a haven of unadulterated luxury where guests are invited to relax, unwind and be themselves, while being pampered with the finest wines, cuisine, décor and, of course, attitude.

As you partake of a welcoming drink, your bags will be whisked away to your suite. Once you head to your accommodations, you’ll discover light and airy rooms, stylishly furnished in colour palettes inspired by the sunshine and flowers that the Bay of Plenty is renowned for.

All the rooms at Hamurana are Executives with ensuite – and they’re extremely spacious ensuites boasting the Lodge’s signature deep-soaking tubs, glass walled showers. Striking New Zealand themed artworks sit comfortably amidst modern technology that, together with the comfortable work area, sensuous linens and attentive service, ensure guests want for nothing.

Large picture windows from the suites and living areas capture exquisite vistas of the surrounding mountains in one direction or picturesque Lake Rotorua in the other. Everywhere else, you’ll spy rolling fields whose colours change seasonally in chameleon-like fashion.

Gather around the bar for drinks in the late afternoon, perhaps partaking of the Lodge’s signature cocktails. Enjoy a game of snooker. Enjoy a glass of your favourite New Zealand wine beside a roaring fire. Partake of a decadent picnic on the lawns. Pamper the body and soul with a spot of yoga in the Zen Studio. Take a dip in the crystal clear swimming pool. Get competitive with a touch of petanque or tennis, or work up an appetite for the sumptuous cuisine in the onsite fitness studio.

And we haven’t left the grounds yet! Within easy reach and easily organised are outings such as a catamaran cruise that combines a dip in a secluded hot pool, fishing, golf, mountain biking … this is Rotorua – there’s plenty to do!

Why not book the Lodge’s 1975 Silver Shadow Rolls Royce and head into town for High Tea!

Talking of cuisine, Le Manoir at Hamurana Lodge is the domain of executive chef Neil Slater. Neil combines the freshest local ingredients (many of the vegetables and herbs are organically grown on site) and delicacies with modern techniques to produce an array of fine dining that will WOW the most discerning palettes. By sourcing as locally as possible, Neil says that he’s helping guests to connect with the area. While Neil’s style is Mediterranean, he combines local faire sublimely. You won’t be disappointed!

Next time you’re headed to Rotorua, make sure you check in at Hamurana Lodge. But, be warned … you simply will not want to leave!

??“Fabulous weekend, we were spoilt rotten! Wonderful house, in a glorious setting. But the attention to detail really makes it special. We really appreciated all the individual touches and thoughtfulness to make my birthday weekend one to remember. Thank you! – Auckland, NZ
