Experience small town America at its best throughout the Countryside of Philadelphia. Charming villages cover the landscape of Brandywine and Valley Forge, filled with unique galleries and shops, fresh local cuisine and special events celebrating the seasons.

Brandywine Valley’s Kennett Square holds the distinction of “Mushroom Capital of the World”, in that its fertile soil there produces over 450,000 kilograms of mushrooms per week. In celebration of this culinary wonder, the town ceases normal business, making way for parades, tours and cooking demonstrations dedicated to this delicious delicacy. The 2013 edition is September 7-8.

Skippack Village harkens back to a time when tradesmen provided quality, one-of-a-kind goods and services whose craftsmanship and artistry were immediately obvious. Best discovered on foot, this charming shopping experience unfolds in a series of discoveries as you wander by interesting shops, restaurants, spas and boutiques tucked in quaint nooks. The village takes on a special character in September and October, celebrating the
harvest, and December, when lights and music create home-spun charm.

Each August, for the past 52 years, music fans have flocked to the Philadelphia Folk Festival in Schwenksville, Pa., the longest continuously-running outdoor musical festival of its kind in North AmericaThe event features “straight-through programming”: bands take the stage at 11 a.m. and continue strumming and singing until midnight.
