Family Breaks to Kickstart the new year

Family Breaks to Kickstart the new year

Well, Christmas is finally out of the way, and I don’t know about you, but I need a break. I have a reasonable amount of holiday time left to use but what can I do in winter? Surprisingly there are quite a few amazing breaks out there that are not too dependent on the weather.

My first recommendation is Disneyland Paris, this truly is a magical place to visit  and the best time to get the most out of it, is off season. Some of the lesser rides will but closed for maintenance. You will have much more chance of getting around the park and seeing the things you want to do without the summer masses. The staff are helpful and friendly and speak English so you will have no problem communicating with the stars and the concession staff. The park is open 10:00 to 19:00 and if you are staying on site in one of the hotels you have access to magic hours. Magic hours allow you an  two more extra hours before opening to allow you to explore the park before general opening time.

One of the best parts about Disneyland Paris is the close proximity to Paris via train. This allows you to soak up the sites in one of the most picturesque and romantic places in the world whilst keeping the kids happy by day. Travel around the city is simple via Métro, Taxi or walking and relatively inexpensive. Some areas such as the Eiffel tower also offer Tuk-Tuk drivers for quick navigating around the city. If you are in less of a hurry why not take a leisurely cruise down the Seine, definitely something for everyone.

My second suggestion is also based in France. A skiing trip to the Alps. This is one of the most gorgeous places in the world, and a must see for everyone at some stage in their lives. Skiing and snowboarding are amazing fun regardless of your experience level, and the kids will just love trying out the piste.

The best way to do a skiing holiday in the Alps is to rent a chalet. There are many different ones around from the basic to the luxury ski chalets with Alpine Infusion. The luxury end of the chalet market offer an amazing holiday. Fantastic views, lift passes, jacuzzi, WiFi and all the mod cons you would expect at home with the added value of having slopes just outside your door.

There is plenty to do even if you are not a confident skier. Snuggle up in front of a roaring fireplace and drink some local mulled wine to take away the cold whilst looking out into one of the most picturesque places in the world.

Many of the high-end chalets also offer massive DVD libraries, on call drivers, satellite TV. Some even have games rooms complete with all the usual bar games to keep the kids occupied. Chalets are fantastic fun and can accommodate a few people right up to two or three families dependant on their size.
