Tropical Townsville – Gateway to Magnetic Island

Tropical Townsville – Gateway to Magnetic Island

Townsville is slowly getting a good name for itself. Besides the busy working port, they have largest army barracks in Australia as well as a university that draws some of the best talent in Queensland . . . it’s no wonder then that this is a very livable city and one that grows on you quickly. They say that people make their money in Townsville and spend it in Cairns – it might well be true! On the waterfront there’s a wonderful esplanade with walking and jogging trails, flash restaurants, cafes and bars and a wide range of accommodation options as well as lovely clean sandy beaches. Not far from the waterfront is the renovated Palmer Street district . . . occupied by a wonderful array of more cafes, bars and eclectic restaurants. Townsville is also only 8km away from Magnetic Island, a little getaway playground full of all manner of adventurous activities. It’s what I’d call a tropical treat!
